The High Country comes alive for Independence Day! We've got it all: small-town charm, mountain views, and classic American festivities. Whether you're staying in Boone, Blowing Rock, or Banner Elk, there's a celebration waiting for you. Here's your guide to the best local events:
BOONE
Parades, Music, & Fireworks!
Kick off the day in downtown Boone with a festive parade featuring floats, marching bands, and local organizations. The Parade will head through the heart of downtown from the Poplar Grove Extension (behind App Cookie Co) to the old Legends building on Hardin Street (behind Dan'l Boone Inn.) Afterward, head to the Jones House Cultural Center for complimentary refreshments, including watermelon, lemonade, and cake.
Conclude your Independence Day with a spectacular fireworks display after 9:00pm over the Boone Greenway, at Clawson-Burnley Park (355 MLK Street, Boone NC 28607.) Arrive early to secure a good parking spot, bring a blanket or camping chair, and enjoy the festivities.
BLOWING ROCK
Wild West Fun and Fireworks!
Spend the day at Tweetsie Railroad, the High Country's family-friendly Wild West theme park, featuring historic train rides, amusement rides, live shows, and a zoo. The day culminates with the largest fireworks display in the region at 9:30 PM on July 4th.
If you're staying through the weekend, don't miss out on another parade! On July 6th, the Town will host their Independence Day parade through downtown, followed by live music all day long, outdoor games, and after dark catch the fireworks from the Blowing Rock Country Club!
BANNER ELK
Parade, Parties, & Music!
Staying closer to Banner Elk? Don't miss the Star Spangled Celebration! This is one of the most popular parades in North Carolina, featuring decorated floats, vehicles, and participants. The parade ends at Tate-Evans Park, where the Party in the Park begins with kids' games, a corn hole tournament, food trucks, and live music.
After the parade, stick around til 7:00pm for a free concert featuring The Big Fun Band, a versatile show playing hits from various genres. The concert is part of the Village Summer Concert Series and takes place in the heart of town.
Tips For Our Visitors
Arrive early - you don't want to fight for parking, and parking can often be limited during special events like these!
Remember to hydrate! We might not get as hot as our friends "down the mountain" but a day in 80*+ temps with humidity often above 75% can wear you out quickly. Bring water, wear sunscreen, and have a light jacket with you to throw on after dark if needed.
Stay in the know: Don't forget to check with local event organizers and social media pages for any updates or changes as the event's dates approach. We recommend bookmarking sites like www.hcpress.org and www.exploreboone.com for more info!
Whether you're a local or visiting, the High Country offers a memorable setting to celebrate America's birthday. From parades to fireworks, there's something for everyone. Have fun and celebrate America with us!
