We had a wonderful time with family at Skytop Retreat. The views from each room were breathtaking. The long-range views with their continuous changes throughout the day delighted and surprised me.
Our family commented on how well appointed the property was. We have stayed in many rentals around the country and by far this was the best equipped in the kitchen, bedroom, living and fun gameroom. There are two decks to enjoy the views. The upper deck is right off the living room and kitchen and provides the best views. If you are quiet you can hear the creek off to your left. I highly recommend you enjoy your morning coffee during sunrise. The lower deck is preferable if you want to avoid the sun during the day or it is raining. Each bedroom is fully furnished and has a bathroom adjacent or nearby. The kitchen is impressive with its top end appliances and everything you need to cook a full meal for a crowd. The game room had so much to enjoy; board games and video games—both modern and classic. There is shuffleboard and a stocked poker table.
We mostly stayed on the property to take advantage of everything the venue provides. We ventured into the quaint town of Blowing Rock for a day of shopping and lunch.
As for the drive up it is easy mountain roads up to the last few turns. The driveway is a well maintained gravel road. We easily traversed the driveway in our Toyota Tundra. Our other family members drove a Highlander and also had no issues. I would say that if your vehicle has solid traction and good clearance you will do fine with the driveway. The rental company does recommend all wheel drive or 4x4. If you are looking for a mountain getaway you'll be sure to enjoy this stunningly beautiful home with breathtaking views. You'll find every aspect of this home to be top-notch.

The Skytop lodge is truly a magical place. I stayed there with 5 other women as part of a retail trading women's retreat and cannot even begin to explain the transformation that occurred. When you walk into the home you are greeted with a view that will literally take your breath away. The pictures just simply do not serve it justice. The house is perfectly equipped to host a gathering or retreat or family reunion. And there was a bonus trail close to the property that leads you down to 2 small waterfalls. That was such a nice surprise. The drive down into the property is a bit bumpy - and I understand the need for all wheel drive. Getting down is no problem, but you certainly need that AWD to kick in on the way up. The best part of the stay was the magical sunrises in the morning. I am sure this is in the description of the property, and I must have overlooked it. But to experience the sunrise over the blue ridge mountains, with the trickle of the stream in the background, the occasional bird song while sipping your coffee is just one of wonder. There were minor hiccups - ice maker did not work and the downstairs fireplace was not working during our stay. But the management company let us know and had a bag of ice for us. And we spent most our time on the main floor anyway, and that fireplace was wonderful. And the place is perfectly appointed and very clean. Needless to say, I will be back.

The drive on 221 can mess with your head, BUT the road leading to the house is definitely a challenge. It was well worth it and had some of the best views we have experienced. We would like to return.

The house was perfect..enjoyable to be in and use. The views were of course our favorite. I cooked for the gang of 9 for the week were there and the Kitchen was more enjoyable to work in than my own ..and have beautiful views the whole time I am cooking. Really relaxing and very clean. thank you for good service. Oh, the road was no problem for us at all, but it was dry and clear, but I had feared the road and all went well.

We had an excellent time at this property. It was gorgeous, spacious, super clean, cozy, and incredibly well appointed. Since we were traveling with a 2 year old, we'd hoped to do a fair amount of cooking in the home and we were beyond thrilled to see how well appointed the kitchen was - truly everything we needed was there! The views are breathtaking and the house is so comfortable and inviting. It is a little far out and kind of tough to get to (4wd is definitely a plus, the roads in the neighborhood are STEEP) but 20 min outside of BR and Linville made getting out and doing things fairly easy. We'd absolutely stay here again!

Cleanliness was really a pleasure as well as all of the amenities in and around the property! We had a wonderful weekend in the mountains. Trying not to repeat the other reviewers, the views out of every room in this house are spectacular. It really is four bedrooms BUT each with its own bath which is what makes it! The kitchen is well equipped, the house was immaculate and well cared for, relatively new build! The warning of having an AWD or 4WD vehicle is understandable but none of us had any problem with our front wheel drive vehicles. You are going DOWN to the house rather than up! There is a GREAT hiking trail right close by. We will be rebooking for next year. A great find and at a very reasonable price!

We had a great stay at Skytop retreat over the holidays. The property was just as described with beautiful views and accommodations. It was such a nice bonus that they had decorated for the holidays. This is the best equipped kitchen I have ever had in a rental. Not only enough pans and dishes to make full meals, but everything was high quality in beautiful condition. The kids made great use of the hot tub and the game room. The gas log fireplaces were so easy to use and gave the whole home a cozy feel. Blue Ridge made the process very easy providing the details we needed in a timely fashion. The branded welcome gift on arrival was such a nice touch. We would look again to rent this property or another of theirs in the future.
