Description Description
Welcome to Rotten Dog Getaway, a comfortable, dog-friendly Sugar Mountain condo named in honor of the homeowner’s beloved dog, Hunter, who, as the story goes, is spoiled absolutely rotten. Around here, we think mountain vacations should include the four-legged members of the family, too! A photo of the eponymous spoiled rotten Hunter is included in the photo slideshow.

Inside, warm wood accents and an open floor plan give the condo a cozy mountain feel while still providing plenty of space to settle in and make yourself at home. The living room is an inviting spot to kick back after a day on the mountain, with comfortable seating, a TV, and a gas fireplace that's especially welcome on chilly Sugar Mountain evenings.

The open kitchen makes it easy to cook while still being part of the conversation. Stainless steel appliances, ample counter space, and a large breakfast bar provide everything you need for morning pancakes, après-ski snacks, or a relaxed dinner at home. And when the weather cooperates, take your meal outside—the covered deck offers an outdoor dining area with beautiful views of the surrounding mountains and Sugar Mountain Golf Course.

Two comfortable bedrooms provide a restful place to recharge, while the updated main bathroom features a spacious tiled walk-in shower and heated flooring for an extra-cozy touch during the colder months. You'll also find board games and a Wii for some old-fashioned family competition when you're ready for an evening in.

But don't spend all your time indoors! The covered deck is one of the best spots at Rotten Dog Getaway, with room to sit, dine, sip your morning coffee, and simply enjoy the mountain scenery. In warmer months, watch the green fairways below and soak up the fresh mountain air. When winter arrives, you'll be right in the heart of one of the High Country's favorite snow destinations.

Sugar Mountain offers something to do in every season, from skiing and snowboarding in winter to golf, tennis, hiking, and mountain biking when the weather warms up. Banner Elk and the surrounding High Country are also within easy reach for restaurants, shopping, wineries, gem mining, rafting, ziplining, and plenty more.

Whether you're planning snowy days on the slopes, a cool summer escape, a fall foliage weekend, or simply a few days away with your favorite people and your own spoiled-rotten dog, Rotten Dog Getaway is ready to welcome the whole family.

Hunter wouldn't dream of vacationing without his people. Why should your dog have to?

Loved this well kept and super clean property. We had an excellent stay and enjoyed the local activities. Played golf at the Sugar Mountain course, which was absolutely gorgeous. Rode the ski lift to the top and enjoyed the perfect view. The alpine coaster was a blast too. What a great stay, everything we needed was on hand, just had to grab some nearby groceries. - Monte P., July 2024 (review left under prior management)

My family and I loved this home. The price was great, very clean, updated and very homey. We loved how each room had its own bathroom and a great porch overlooking the river and sugar mountain slopes. It is walking distance to the sugar mnt slopes and less than 5 minute drive to the Wilderness Run Alpine Coaster and Ropes Course. It was also only about a 20min drive to the Land of Oz. The owner was very friendly and helpful with whatever we needed. We would definitely be back again. - Cala C., September 2023 (review left under prior management)

This condo was clean and beautiful. Perfect location for skiing or snowboarding sugar mountain, it is literally steps to the slope. We had a wonderful time and would recommend! - Brooke S., March 2021 (review left under prior management)

Really a cute place! Great location, central to everything. Beautifully decorated and well appointed with everything you’ll need. Starting to show a little wear but don’t let that stop you from staying here, especially if you’re a skier! The lift is a stones throw away. We rented in September and the trees behind provided a lot of privacy and a great view. Not mention the stream running down below! There was also a hawk that frequented the balcony every day. It was perfect for the two of us! - Heather H., September 2021 (review left under prior management)

Updated unit and is perfect for new skiers. It is a short walk to the green slopes. The condos at the top would have discouraged the newer skiers, being it is a blue run. The kitchen is stocked with everything we needed to prepare all of our meals. I recommend this unit to anyone that wants a ski in/out with newer skiers and a updated/modern unit. I will be staying here next season. - Mark B., March 2021 (review left under prior management)

We loved our stay at this newly renovated condo in Sugar Mountain! It is nicely decorated and everything is brand new! Extremely clean and well taken care of! Open concept with many great features and modern upgrades. Heated floors in the master bath was an added bonus on chilly mornings. :) We also enjoyed the cute balcony and view of the creek in the back. It’s in a great location for skiing (can see the ski lift from the balcony) with easy drives to Boone, Blowing Rock and Grandfather Mountain. We can’t wait to visit again! - Veronica B., November 2020 (review left under prior management)

Where do I start and what do I say? This place is top notch. What a view, sit in the kitchen and watch the slopes. Ski in and ski out. Kitchen is fully loaded. Nice mud room to leave skis, snowboards and boots. Nice deck you can also sit on with a cup of coffee or your favorite beverage. Nice area to walk your pet. Babbling stream outside deck that sounds so relaxing. Loved our stay here and will definitely go back. So close to Banner Elk and Boone. - V. B., March 2022 (review left under prior management)

Great place to stay. Newly renovated, nice appliances, plenty of cooking utensils, games to play, and parking for two vehicles. We have stayed in several Bee Branch condos and this was at the top of the list. - James H., September 2024 (review left under prior management)

We enjoyed our trip to this condo. What a cute place it is! The condo is renovated so well, with quality furnishings, appliances and decor, and the decor is warm, inviting and comfy! The gas logs are a nice touch, and warm the room up fast. The beds are comfy. Although we didn’t cook while there, the kitchen is fully stocked with all you need to fix meals. We found the condo to be very clean. The condo overlooks the ski lift, and they were making snow while we were there. That was fun to watch! It is is quick drive to Banner Elk to eat, and several restaurants are just outside the resorts entrance. We would definitely recommend this condo, and will return on the future. - Kelly D., November 2020 (review left under prior management)

We loved this condo. Location was great. Close to hiking, attractions and a grocery store! Two added bonuses....it had AC as it was really humid during our visit and no animal heads on the walls or shower curtains. It felt like home. Would stay there again when visiting the High Country. - Heidi W., June 2022 (review left under prior management)

This was our second time visiting this property and we will definitely be returning. View of the ski area is beautiful and the house is perfect for our family of four and our dogs. Be aware the road up is steep in areas and in the winter conditions can deteriorate rapidly so all wheel drive or snow chains are a must. - Kristen A., December 2024 (review left under prior management)
