Located directly on Railroad Grade Road, you’ll be staying on one of the region’s most beloved routes — a 10.8‑mile flat road built on the original Virginia‑Carolina Railroad (Virginia Creeper) grade. After the line was abandoned decades ago, the corridor became a scenic path that now attracts visitors from all over. People come to bike, walk, and run this famous stretch for its gentle grade, mountain views, and constant companionship of the New River. It’s one of the most peaceful and picturesque roads in the High Country.
Inside, the cabin features warm hardwood floors, a cozy gas‑log fireplace, and a well‑stocked kitchen for nights spent cooking at home. The main‑level primary suite includes a king bed and ensuite bath. Upstairs, two queen bedrooms and a custom log‑style bunk room (Twin‑over‑Queen + Twin‑over‑Twin) provide comfortable space for families and groups, along with two full bathrooms.
The lower level is designed for relaxed fun and extra space to unwind. It features a pool table, foosball table, and pop‑a‑shot basketball game, along with a second living room and TV area — perfect for movie nights, kids hanging out, or spreading out after a day outdoors. Note: Basement is not heated in winter time.
Outside, the property offers multiple spaces to enjoy the river. An elevated deck with a hot tub overlooks the water and the surrounding trees, creating a perfect spot for morning coffee or stargazing at night. Down by the river, a riverside deck sits just steps from the water’s edge, ideal for reading, relaxing, or watching the gentle flow of the New River. A firepit area completes the outdoor experience, offering a cozy place to gather in the evenings.
A wide flat yard stretches toward the river, perfect for yard games or launching a day of fishing, kayaking, or tubing. River access was significantly improved in 2025, making it easier than ever to enjoy the New River after Hurricane Helene reshaped the shoreline. And if you love tubing, this location is unbeatable — you can put in just 1.5 miles upstream at Todd Island Park and float all the way back to your own yard, ending your river run right at the cabin.
Whether you’re sipping coffee at sunrise or unwinding in the hot tub under the stars, the peaceful soundtrack of the river sets the tone for your stay. Riverbend Retreat is the best of all worlds — unmatched scenery, total tranquility, and easy access to everything the High Country has to offer.
