Description
Welcome to our River Refuge on the South Fork!

If you are looking for a comfortable, private, family-friendly, quality home for a better-than-expected vacation rental then you are in the right place.

This wonderful 2,000 square foot, 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom home is located on the South Fork New River in Fleetwood, NC.  Just a half mile to the river at Railroad Grade Road, you can walk or bike to your heart’s content without having to get into your car. Only a 20-minute drive to either Boone or West Jefferson and situated on 4 acres of land, you’re just a short drive away to the downtown areas while still feeling miles away at this private getaway.

With a primary king suite, a queen bedroom, and a third bunk room with a daybed and a trundle (four twin mattresses total) in this single level home, River Refuge on the South Fork is excellent for couples, families and friend groups alike.

Under the vaulted ceilings in the great room, you can cozy up with a cup of coffee while you read or enjoy a fire in the wood-burning fireplace.  Down the hall is a second full living area, complete with a 65-inch smart TV and an extra deep sectional providing room for the whole family. 500 MBPS Wi-Fi is available throughout the home and a desk with two external monitors plus a docking station makes for easy connectivity for remote work during an extended stay.

While including all the basics, the kitchen also comes with things you may wish more short-term rentals had such as sharp kitchen knives (our knife block has a built-in sharpener), a French press, drip coffee maker, an electric kettle, matching pots & pans and cutlery - and even a few extras like an electric waffle maker!

If you’re traveling with kids (or even if you aren’t!) the house is stocked with puzzles, games and children’s books. Outside, guests can take a dip in the relaxing hot tub, catch up on your reading while laying in the hammock, or roast a marshmallow at the fire pit. Even your four-legged companions will enjoy their stay with the fully fenced in yard.

We love this beautiful area, and we hope you come to love it too!

River Refuge was amazing. My husband, our dog and another couple were very comfortably accommodated. The kitchen was fully stocked with nice cookware, utensils and something we rarely see in such rentals, sharp knives. Bedding was comfy as was all furniture. We enjoyed walking along the South Fork of the New River as well as the mountain views from the living area of the home. We made a couple of trips to West Jefferson for restaurants and shopping. Food was good and Boondocks Brewery merited stops both days. We look forward to our next trip and highly recommend River Refuge for anyone thinking about a visit to the area.

Fantastic space and area. A bit off the beaten path yet close to Wear Jefferson and Boone. Both great areas to explore. The grounds were gorgeous , we had a ton of space inside and out to stretch out. The two living spaces were super cool as well. Absolutely recommend this stay for anyone on the fence about it.

Such a charming escape. Our family had a magical week here in early spring enjoying clean, comfy, light-filled rooms; the well-stocked kitchen where things were easy to find; the wrap-around porch with lovely pastoral views; and the yard's fun features, including hammock, swings, and hot tub. My husband and I worked remotely for two days--fast internet (and a great mini-office setup in one of the bedrooms) made that easy, and our kids (5 & 10) stayed occupied with books, games, puzzles, toys, and more while we worked. The weather ranged from snowy to the high 70s during the week we were there, and we were comfortable through it all (and enjoyed roasting marshmallows in the wood-burning fireplace!). This place is well situated--a convenient home base for several fantastic hikes (left notes on a few of our faves in the guest book) and meals at restaurants in the West Jefferson, Boone, and Blowing Rock area. My only regret is that it was too cold (or we were too wimpy?!?) to tube on the New River, within walking distance of the cabin. Solid reason to go back!

We absolutely loved our stay here! The house has beautiful views, an amazing firepit, and well placed hot tub. There are books and games galore, and every need we had (including having a coffee grinder!) was met. The kitchen was the best stocked kitchen of any we've ever stayed. We felt so taken care of and cannot wait to stay here again!

we stayed here during our trip to Boone. It is around 30 minutes from Boone and only around 15 to West Jefferson. My daughter enjoyed the yard to play in the snow and there was enough for 8 of us to sleep and loved the neighbors horses. We enjoyed the two living rooms as well. My only complaints which were small is there are no locks on the bathroom doors and it would be nice for a cover over the jacuzzi with some lights out back.

5 out of 5 stars for River Refuge on the South Fork! The home has everything you need and there is so much space!! Along with the mountain views, privacy, hot tub, comfortable beds with lots of sleeping options, responsive owners, and great prices, this home is one that we will definitely come back to in the future. Specifically, Daniel was accommodating and helpful in providing ideas for activities in the area. You can tell he really wants his guests to love the place as much as he and his family enjoy it. We also were able to see the horses next door and the friendly barn cat, which along with the large lego assortment, had my kids wanting to just move in permanently. The house is also clean and I love that there is a starter pack, linens and towels provided! We can't wait to come back!

This was our second time staying at this beautiful house and love it even more each time we come back. It has been the perfect retreat for our family, an easy drive from Chapel Hill. It is spacious with plenty of room to host our large family this past Thanksgiving. The decor is thoughtful and very kid friendly with even more games, puzzles, and legos than we remembered from our last visit. The open yard, fire pit and hot tub make perfect activities to enjoy the mountains, even on a cold night. We can't wait to come back this summer to tube on the river just down the street. Thanks for opening your home to us. Highest recommendation for this house

Our family had an absolute blast at the River Refuge on the South Fork. The kids were overjoyed with the array of toys, games, and books, and the hot tub was a definite highlight! My kids loved waking up in the mornings and looking for the horses next door. The area and the house itself were simply breathtaking, leaving us eagerly anticipating our next visit.

What a wonderful place to stay! As lovers of both Boone and West Jefferson, this was the perfect spot right in between. The kids enjoyed seeing the horses next door, we all loved a good hot tub soak, and it was wonderful to explore Rendezvous Mt State Park. We hope to make a return trip to this airbnb that has everything you could possibly need for a cozy stay. đź’•

We had such a wonderful time at the River Refuge! Everything was comfortable and well thought out, so many large and small details that made us feel welcome and at ease. It was the perfect place for a girls getaway, and would be a great place for families too. We loved waking up and watching the horses and barn cats from the hot tub, cooking in the incredibly well appointed kitchen, and cozying up by the fire in the evenings. It was easy to get to Boone and to local hiking trails. We will definitely be back!

The River Refuge is a wonderful spot for a vacation. The location is beautiful. The neighbors have horses. The hot tub overlooks the mountains. There is a hammock and a swing. We enjoyed s'mores by the fire with firewood already stacked and ready for us. The river is a short walk downhill. My kids enjoyed wading in the river. The house is 30 min from Tweetsie Railroad, a fun spot for kids. It is a short 15 min drive to Mount Jefferson with gorgeous views and hikes. We did the Rhodendron Trail, the perfect length trail for my kids. The River Refuge house is well stocked with board games and legos. It was lovely to wake up and enjoy coffee on the porch while my kids happily played with the games. Highly recommend this lovely home!

River refuge was the perfect escape for our short weekend getaway. Accommodations exceeded our expectations with little touches to the decor and home furnishings that show thoughtfulness for guests and unmatched hospitality. We look forward to staying there again and exploring West Jefferson some more, especially the donut shop!

This was a great home to spend a long Labor Day weekend. It was very comfortable and had everything that was needed for our stay. The location was great. Refuge on the South Fork of the New River is a perfect name. The management company was very responsive when needed. We will be returning!

We had the best time staying here! We visited for 4 nights but wish we could have stayed longer. We have two young kids and two young-at-heart dogs, and the accommodations could not have been better for our crew. Our 4-year-old was over the moon to play with all the legos that were available, and we got to try a ton of new board games. Having fun things to do at the house (that we didn't have to pack!) was so perfect because it kept one kid happy while the other kid napped, or while the grown ups made meals or even enjoyed a hot coffee or cold drink on the beautiful deck! We loved visiting the river, trying our hand at fishing, hiking to a waterfall, visiting local breweries and restaurants, and riding the Alpine coaster. Next time we hope to go gem mining, tubing, and pick out a few more hikes. We can't wait to come back!!

I do not where to start! This home is absolutely beautiful and so perfect for a mountain getaway. It is 30 minutes away from Boone to enjoy a bit of shopping but also set off the beaten path to make you disconnect from the hectic world. From the short walk down the hill to the river to play in the crisp water to enjoying watching deer play in the yard every morning, this home is everything I could have imagined for a getaway after a busy school year. It is an easy drive from Mebane, NC and the home has everything you could possibly need to enjoy a yummy meal with your favorite people creating the best memories ever! My family will be back again and will be sharing with friends so everyone can partake in this beauty of a home!

Loved this place! We were traveling with 3 young children, and the home had so many great features for kids & families like a spacious interior with two family/living rooms, lots of games and books, and bowls/plates for kids. The kitchen had everything we could want for cooking & eating, and there so many thoughtful touches - like chip clips! Overall, a great getaway for kids & adults.

We came for a long weekend and loved this place! The location was great, close to both Boone and West Jefferson, and so close to the river! The house itself was as nice as advertised - things were new and useful! All the beds were comfy, kitchen was really well supplied, shower water was hot and good pressure…really a nice place to stay! And we thought the real treasure was the Great Room -and it provided a beautiful backdrop for our photos ! We had a few folks in our group, and having the Great Room and the TV room at the opposite ends of the house meant everyone could do what they wanted, without having to compromise. Definitely give this place a try!

This property is a gem of a rental! I knew from the photos that it was lovely, but driving up to the house took my breath away. Nothing but green and mountain views and green grass for my kids to run around on. The natural beauty is just stunning. There are a couple of gentle horses next door that my kids could say hello to, and a fire pit to relax around day and night. The setup is great for a family with kids. We had 4 kids in the kid bedroom, and 3 adults between the other bedrooms. The living spaces are super spacious. There is a huge stock of board games to play too! We loved that all the light switches and cabinets were labelled and everything we needed to cook for 7 (or much more) was ready to go. The owners are clearly very thoughtful and intentional about making the space cozy, accessible, and easy. Other bonuses include a very short walk to the New River, and quick and easy drives to grocery stores, brewpubs, and lots more river and hiking spots. The location was awesome for a drive from Durham too.
