My family had a great stay here! The area is super private & peaceful. The kids loved how spacious the yard was, they spent so much time out there. We had enough seating for both of our small families, BUT as other reviewers have stated, the couches are older and very uncomfortable. You fall into the cracks & middles everytime, no matter how you adjust or how many people are sitting with you.
The kitchen was also well stocked with everything we needed for cooking!
Will definitely be back!!

The property was clean, and the bath time was great due to the hot water and shower.
We took an air mattress as we were 12, and I was afraid of the sofa bed not being that good. I think they should only change the sofa beds for something new. This is my only point, everything else was great, and we had a blessed family time in the house. We felt at home! We were all sad when it was time to go back to reality!

The location was very nice. I love the living room and kitchen space. It has a nice view to the open yard. Only complaint is the water didn’t get hot enough when we showered. I loved staying here and would come back again.

We enjoyed our weekend tubing trip, and the cabin was very nice. The house was very clean and provided a lot of room for our family with a beautiful view by the River. The only thing I would change is upgrading the full size beds to queen. A little hard for two adults to sleep on a full size bed. Very close quarters. LOL

If you are looking for a rental property that is just that, this is the place for you. If you like the personal feel that Airbnb usually provides this in not the place for you. It was well maintained, clean, and a nice little house. It was convenient to West Jefferson, and Boone.

We needed a pet friendly cabin roomy enough for a family of 10 and this was perfect. Right on the river, close enough to Boone and West Jefferson to do any shopping necessary. Cooked a great Thanksgiving meal and even went to Frosty's Choose and Cut Tree farm to bring home our Christmas tree. It was a wonderful week!

This was a wonderful property on the river. Easy drive to Boone and West Jefferson. Tubing/kayaking from Todd was perfect. As other mentioned, the mattresses were HARD and could use mattress toppers. All the linens and towels need to be updated. The furnishings were hodge-podge as well. If those things were to be taken care of, it would truly be a top notch rental!! We enjoyed our stay regardless of the poor sleep.

Pros:
- Beautiful Views
- Close to Boone
- Lots of room in the cabin
- Snow was amazing
-Kitchen/home had everything we needed including extra blankets
-Everything was clean
Cons:
- The beds are rock hard and desperately need foam toppers. We slept horrible (and we are only in our 30’s!).. This would be the only reason we wouldn’t come back if this wasn’t updated.
Other:
When they say you need 4 wheel drive in the winter they mean it. Almost didn’t get out of the driveway with our Honda Odyssey.

The cabin was clean. It's location is very convenient to Boone and the roads were very easy to drive on. It has nice view of the creek out the back. The downstairs quarters were perfect for our adult sons. There was lots of room to have family over for a meal. We enjoyed our weekend in the cabin.

This Home & Area is absolutely beautiful. Right on the New River so you're able to enjoy a relaxing 2hr tube ride down from the Todd park, best part is you end up right back at your house! The home is spacious, clean and stocked with everything you need & more. The one thing I wish it had was better river access. Other than that it was perfect!

This place is a great size and right on the river. The yard is open and spacious, which was great for our dogs. The place says it can sleep 12 but in addition to the multiple beds, there are two pull out couches, a futon , and a window seat that is six feet long. There are two kitchens that are mostly functioning. The downstairs one had the oven switched off but it was no issue for us. The only two "downsides" are the internet/ TV. It's in the mountains high speed internet isn't super available, but I suggest bringing movies and a chromecast or laptop that you can stream to the TV. The other issue was the river access. The neighbors have a lovely river side that is easy to access. The access for our house was a steep staircase that could use some attention. Overall we loved staying here and plan on coming back in the future!

The house layout and size was great for the two family’s we had staying. Not to mention being right on the river is hard to beat. After the sun went down the lightening bugs were the most we have ever seen! The house was in good condition some of the furniture was old and with only one king and the rest of the beds being doubles or twins it made it a little more difficult, but we made due. There were definitely some things that could be fixed or updated, but nothing that made the trip any less enjoyable as most of our time was spent outside. Overall we had a great trip and would come back again!

We went with our kids and another family to do some skiing. This cabin was perfect for the 8 of us - 4 adults 4 kids and 2 pups. Lots of space. Fun amenities and so peaceful.

This is the third time my family has stayed at this property. The housekeeping is to be commended because this is one of the cleanest properties we have stayed at. Love the open floor plan, and a quiet, friendly neighborhood. We also enjoy the close proximity to Boone, West Jefferson, and Blowing Rock. New construction going on right beside the master bedroom, but the noise was not bad. The mattress in the master bedroom does need replacing in my opinion (very firm and "lumpy" in a few places), but the full-size mattress in other bedrooms are comfortable according to my family. Kitchen is well equipped for the most part. We did have to purchase muffin tins and a small baking pan for brownies. There was also starter paper towels and toilet paper (and one extra roll of toilet paper in the bathrooms) so that was nice. Also, love having an ice maker in the fridge. The main TV has limited channels (DirectTV) with lots of infomercials. We could not find the remote to the TV/DVD player in the bedroom. We were expecting firewood to be available in the basement per the rental description, but there was none, so no S'Mores for us. The TV was not working when we arrived, but a call to High Country Rentals was successful in figuring out the problem, and the service was friendly and accommodating. I'm sure they would have taken care of the firewood for us had we called. Love the number of bathrooms (4 toilets) and the property is well maintained with a large backyard that leads to the New River. It always feels like home when we stay here and look forward to renting again.

I live in the area, but due to incomplete renovations to our home and company coming- we had to resort to renting a home for the weekend. Home was at a great location, quite neighborhood and having access to the river would have been a plus, had we had time to access the river. We rent a lot of homes for vacation and we all agreed, this was one of the cleanest dwellings we had spent time in. Kudos to the cleaning company! The only cons I had was the pans were terrible for cooking (all the food would stick and hard to clean), no saran wrap or foil in the home, pillows were flat and beds were tiny. These are things we could live with, but wouldn't hurt to make minor adjustments over time. Plus... need to change the directions. This home is now the third home on the right because a new one is almost complete right beside of it. Overall, we loved the house and would highly recommend it and would stay again, should the need arise!

Thankfully, this wasn't an issue; but I would recommend making it known to potential renters that there is only one access to and from this development. Overall, the house met our needs for a large family with pets. High Country is a wonderful company to work with, very conscientious and caring of their customers! I would recommend them to anyone visiting the High Country!

We enjoyed the our stay at the River House. We celebrated our sons' birthdays with several other teenagers. The boys loved the field for tag football. Great access to the river for tubing and plenty of tubes for all of us. So nice to have firewood and firepit for smores. The upstairs kitchen was stocked well with all necessities and the living area was great for a group of 11. TVs in other areas need to be updated. Plenty of linens for beds but no washcloths and also could use more towels. FYI for other renters: Linens are provided but you do have to make your beds when you arrive. You can only leave two bags of trash at end of stay, if you leave on Sunday and have a big group that is a problem. We could not find place that would allow us to use trash bins. Over all the house was great for our needs with a few updates would be fantastic.

The upstairs kitchen was stocked well with all necessities and the living area was great for a group of 11. TVs in other areas need to be updated. Plenty of linens for beds but no washcloths and also could use more towels. FYI for other renters: Linens are provided but you do have to make your beds when you arrive. You can only leave two bags of trash at end of stay, if you leave on Sunday and have a big group that is a problem. We could not find place that would allow us to use trash bins. Over all the house was great for our needs with a few updates would be fantastic.

Great place! Clean and well equipped. Love the apt downstairs for some privacy for my daughter and her family. Nice neighborhood, and beautiful country!

We were evacuating from south Florida for hurricane Irma and we needed a space big enough for the whole family, this was perfect. The property was amazing! Plenty of stuff to do for the whole family. Read the book about the history of the things in the house. We used it as a scavenger hunt with our daughter and she loved it and retold the stories to everyone we met. The neighborhood was perfect and welcoming. We will be renting again this coming summer and inviting family friends. Downstairs is set up like a full apartment so multiple families can come without bothering each other. Field was perfect for family reunion foot ball games or big outside dinners. We loved this house! Thank you so much!

We would definitely go again! The house had a great "homie" feel to it, with the river and Christmas tree fields surrounding the property. Plenty of things to do nearby- skiing, downtown Boone, etc. Great area and great house!

Perfect cabin and location for our family. Located between Boone and West Jefferson, allowing trips to either town if needed. Sounds of the New River and walks along the banks was a much needed escape from our hectic week. Would love to plan a longer stay the next time!
