Bella Luna at MontEagle

We’ve stayed in 15+ vacation rentals over the last decade—many throughout the mountains of North Carolina and Tennessee—and without question, Bella Luna at Monteagle is the best rental we’ve ever experienced. This stay marked a very intentional transition point in our lives: my final week after being laid off from an employer I had been with for 16 years, and the beginning of a completely new chapter. We specifically chose this home because it felt restorative from the moment we saw the listing, and somehow the experience still exceeded every expectation. Walking in genuinely left us speechless. The mountain views are absolutely stunning, but what truly sets this property apart is the design. Whoever designed or furnished this home completely knocked it out of the park. The Scandinavian influence throughout the interiors was immediately recognizable to us from our travels in Scandinavia—the restrained palette, layered textures, organic materials, intentional simplicity, and calming neutrality all felt incredibly authentic and thoughtfully executed. Every detail felt elevated without ever feeling cold or overdone. RH pieces throughout (IYKYK), gorgeous organic-style Crate & Barrel dinnerware (the double sets were such a nice touch), beautiful textiles, tones, lighting, and materials—everything felt curated with real care. We especially appreciated the deliberate omission of a TV in the main upstairs living area. Instead of defaulting into distraction, we spent time writing, reading, talking, and simply staring out at the mountains. It was exactly the reset we needed. The Japanese cedar hot tub was unforgettable, especially with those views, and the huge fenced yard was perfect for our two miniature poodles. They spent hours watching the mountains through the windows and exploring the yard safely. It honestly felt like the house was designed to slow your nervous system down. We truly did not want to leave and are already talking about coming back. A few notes that are more suggestions than complaints: you can tell the property is still evolving a bit, and we’d love to see additional furniture added to the upper deck and lower patio because those spaces deserve to be fully enjoyed. We also think a gazebo or partial windbreak behind the hot tub would make a massive difference—the wind coming up behind it can be pretty intense, and adding some protection would allow guests to enjoy it comfortably in more weather conditions. One practical recommendation for management: because the hot tub is cedar, the water can develop a strong smell/color if not maintained carefully. We’d recommend ensuring it’s fully emptied and refilled between guests. That said, none of this diminished the experience for us. Bella Luna is extraordinary— not just beautiful, but memorable in a way very few rentals ever are. You simply cannot be anything but inspired and euphoric here. It is truly magical and set the bar so high I am sure every future rental will be measured against it. What a dream.
