The house has a great location and is close by to all mountain activities. We had a large group of friends with children who stayed at the property. It met all of our needs! We would suggest dusting of light fixtures and updating the picture of the bunk room (located on 2nd floor-not the basement). Overall, we had a fantastic time!

House was beautiful, well stocked, and very spacious. Great layout for a family to enjoy time together and has enough small spaces to get a couple minutes peace and quiet. And the hot tub was awesome!

If you’re looking for a home that can accommodate a large family or family gathering then this is it! The home has all the porch space you could possibly want, all the dining space you will need and everything you look for in a home away from home. We had a family gathering here recently and all of our family had places to hangout at and relax. The kids played in the game room, all the men hung out outside and enjoyed the view while the women and young ones stayed inside and enjoyed their time together. Just wanted to say we will definitely be staying here again and appreciate the home owners for sharing their home with us!

This home was perfect for our entire family of adult children and grandchildren! The kitchen was totally equipped and spacious to accommodate all 14 of us! We enjoyed the hot tub and game room as well for fun. The high ceilings in the family room with beautiful views was my favorite space!

This cabin had everything we needed to entertain the children and adults. The hot tub was a hit. The spacious kitchen was equipped with everything we needed. The speaker system that runs throughout the house and outside was amazing! The spacious living quarters, each with a fireplace, gave it that extra cozy feeling. We will definitely be back.

A High Country Retreat was the perfect property for our family of ten--parents, grown children and grandchildren. The four granddaughters loved staying together in the bunk room, as well as playing all over this lovely and comfortable house. The adults loved the fabulously well-equipped kitchen, and the design of the house allowed for both privacy and togetherness -- we gave it an A-plus for three "master" bedrooms, great furnishings, and wraparound porches with gorgeous views. Our only disappointment was the time it took for the rental agency to complete a needed hot tub repair--wish we could have used it earlier, as it is delightful. Our thanks to the owners for such attention to detail.

We LOVED staying at the High Country Retreat! The kitchen was amazing! It was a well stocked chef's kitchen with everything we needed. We loved having the room downstairs to watch movies, play games and work puzzles. We will definitely stay here again!

Excellent place for our family vacation! Lots of space for everyone. Well stocked chef's kitchen. We brought extra utensils but didn't need to unpack them because everything we needed was in the kitchen. Loved the views from the house. Was able to hike around the location. Maintenance replied quickly when needed and checked on us to make sure everything was fixed. Would definitely stay here again.

High Country Retreat was the perfect size for our three families over Spring Break. It is right outside the downtown portion of Boone, with lots of cute shops and restaurants. About 25 minutes from Appalachian Ski Mountain and 30 minutes from Blowing Rock. The home is well stocked, very clean, with comfortable beds and plenty of areas to hang out. The fireplaces in nearly every rom were so cozy, and the hot tub was a big hit. The kitchen was the perfect place to cook meals for our group and the dining table provides the perfect spot to share meals together. The home is located on the top of a very steep road. 4 wheel drives are required and they were absolutely necessary. We got about 10 inches of snow throughout the week and on the days of heavy snow, even the 4 wd's couldn't make it back up the mountain. We didn't mind being snowed in at all at the High Country Retreat, though! The management company does send out a snow plow for the road once it stopped snowing and we were able to make it to the Appalachian Ski Resort ( which was the perfect place for our kids to learn to ski) We had a wonderful time and will cherish the memories made at the High County Retreat!

Our family came together to celebrate my daughters' graduation from ASU. There were 10 of us...We had a blast. This was so much better than 5 individual motel rooms. The house was clean and neat and spacious and well laid out. The zoned AC worked well. We were glad we had been warned about the winding, curvy road and steep driveway We sat around the dining room table for 12 and talked and talked and talked. We sat on the deck and talked and talked and talked. The bedrooms were gorgeous and the space immense. We had contests playing pool, shuffleboard, Foosball and air hockey. We watched movies, read, relaxed and sat in the hot tub. We spent 18 minutes trying to lock doors and turn o ff the shower. We grilled. We laughed and we cried. We had a very, special long weekend. Not only was my daughter valedictorian of her class, she also got engaged. We were greatly blessed.

Ask for Casey Ellison -- she is awesome and a pleasure to work with as were the front desk staff who were friendly, as excited as we were, organized and very professional.

My friends and I were looking for a unique experience to celebrate a friend's 30th birthday. We decided to rent a cabin and just enjoy some time in the mountains. We found the Blue Ridge rentals and immediately fell in love with the pictures of the High Country Retreat cabin. The pricing was fantastic and very affordable for the number of people going. The entire booking experience was simple and straight forward. The insurance for the stay was a no-brainer being that accidents do happen (we ended up with a couple of small accidents that were covered 100% by the insurance). When we arrived at the cabin it was BREATHTAKING! The home was gorgeous, clean and extremely comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked and had just about any cookware you could think of and then some. Needless to say, our four day stay had no dull moments. We plan to make this an annual trip now and will only book through Blue Ridge Rentals. Side note: they advise for visitors to have AWD or 4WD and I couldn't agree more. I tried making it up to the cabin in my 2014 Chevrolet Equinox (FWD) and barely made it up the driveway. Luckily, it didn't start snowing until the morning we left so I got lucky. I will definitely have an AWD vehicle for the next visit. Anyone planning to rent this cabin will not regret it.

I just wanted to leave a comment about the High Country Retreat....the cabin was amazing I have been visiting north Carolina for 35 years, every single year we make a trip to north Carolina and have stayed in many cabins...this cabin was by far the most beautiful cabin and all the kitchen gadgets made this place amazing, the decor and the cleanliness was superb. our entire group had an amazing time even though we were snowed in the majority of our trip. (1/4/14-1/9/14) we want to make another reservation already for the summer :) thank you!

My sister-in-law found High Country Retreat for our family to take a little get-away for Labor Day Weekend. Initially I was concerned because it is "only" five bedrooms. We had five children under the age of 4, including two toddlers and a baby, with us. Well, I was wrong. The house very comfortably slept 8 adults and 5 little ones, and we did not use half of the bunk beds, any of the day beds, or any of the pull out couches. The drive up the mountain was definitely scary for us flat-landers, but it was well worth it. This house had such beautiful views. The house itself was clearly very well built, and there was such wonderful attention to detail. No expense was spared in building and furnishing this house. The kitchen had every appliance (electric rice cooker, Kitchen Aid stand mixer, waffle maker) and cooking equipment you could ever need. There were hair dryers in every bathroom, and plenty of extra linens. Although it was a bit cumbersome to get up and down the mountain, we were able to get to downtown Boone, Tweetsie Railroad, and downtown Blowing Rock in less than 15 minutes. There is a grocery store and plenty of restaurants within less than 10 minutes, including the drive down the mountain :) I want to come back every year!

Our men's book club has had spring retreats every year for the past 15 years, always at beach houses along the North Carolina coast. If the weather is cold, wet or overcast at the beach, which it can be in the spring, it can be a real damper on the retreat. This year we decided to give the mountains a try and someone told us about the High Country Retreat. The house and its views are even better than the photos indicate. It was perfect for our 10-member book club. It's great even if it's snowy, which it was the first of april this year, because it's a perfect winter lodge with several gas fireplaces and tvs, pool table, foosball and a really great kitchen (we're foodies as well). Instead of staring out at a flat, gray ocean, we had fabulous views down the valley and across to the next layer of mountains. The nearby ski runs had closed for the season, but we took advantage of the wintry weather to hike up nearby Elk's Knob in the snow. I think we've been converted from beach bums to mountain men. We're planning on returning for next year's retreat.

We stayed here for a long weekend with three generations of family. There was plenty of space for the kids to play in the entertainment room downstairs and the adults to relax in the wonderful living room with the amazing views. The kitchen really did have everything we needed to prepare gourmet dinners for twelve!
