Frequently Asked Questions about CHECKING IN


How do I check-in?

You may check in at our office in Blowing Rock anytime after 3:00 p.m. for most houses. You will receive a welcome packet with keys, directions, and information upon your arrival.  See below for information about checking in after business hours, on weekends, and on major holidays.

May I check in on a major holiday?

We do not permit anyone to check in on Christmas Day, Thanksgiving Day, or Easter Sunday under any circumstances. Please do not ask for an exception to this rule. We have this policy in order to give those three days off to everyone in our company, including housekeepers and maintenance techs. You are welcome to schedule a check-in for any other holiday or day of the week.

May I check in any earlier than 3:00 p.m. (or 4:00 p.m. for the larger homes)?

If the home you reserved was not occupied the previous night, we will do our best to honor your request for an early check-in.  However, we often will not know the readiness of a property before 11:00 a.m. on the day of your arrival, even if it has been vacant for several days.  Therefore, please contact us after 11:00 a.m. on the day of your arrival to find out if you may check in early.

May I obtain directions to the house before arrival?

Yes, we can send directions to you once your reservation is confirmed with a signed agreement and payment. We can only send the directions to the person in whose name the reservation is booked. Please make sure everyone in your group knows to arrive at the home after proper check-in time.

May I check in at the house?

Some homeowners do permit us to arrange check-ins at the property.  Please discuss this possible option with one of our Reservation Specialists at least 3-4 days prior to arrival.

Are there sheets and towels at the property?

Yes. We provide one towel and washcloth per person that each respective house accommodates, plus a few extra towels if there is a hot tub.  The beds are made up with clean linens (except bunks, sleepers, and futons, but linens are provided on site). If you routinely use two towels after bathing, you may need to bring some of your own.

Are there condiments, paper towels, etc. at the property?

We provide a starter kit of toilet paper, paper towels, dish soap, hand soap, and garbage bags. It’s enough for one or two nights, but will likely not be enough to get you through your entire stay. You may want to bring some necessary items from home or plan to buy some upon arrival. We do not provide cooking oils or spices, coffee, coffee filters, or laundry detergent.

What if I have a maintenance emergency after office hours?

We have a dedicated team of on-call maintenance techs and agents able to help you with emergencies after we are closed. The after-hours number is provided in your welcome packet.

Frequently Asked Questions about CHECKING OUT


May I leave the key at the house?

If your route back home will not take you through Blowing Rock, you may leave the keys at the house. Your booking agent will discuss these details with you at the time of reservation. If you will be passing our office on the way out of town, though, please kindly return the keys to us.

May we check out later than 11 a.m. (or 10 a.m for the larger homes)?

We cannot authorize a late check-out at the time of your booking due to the possibility of another guest booking the same home for arrival on the same day that you leave. You may, however, ask for a later checkout when you are checking in or at some time during your stay, and we will do our best to accommodate your request.

What about trash removal?

There should be one or two large garbage cans outside the house into which you may place your bagged trash.  The trash in these outside containers will be removed for you, but you are required to remove any trash from inside the home.  Instructions inside the house will inform you of which day there is trash pick-up. If there are no instructions inside the house, the trash will be collected after your departure.

Frequently Asked Questions about OUR COMPANY POLICIES

Must I have a 4WD/AWD vehicle?

We care about your safety and don’t want you to spend your valuable vacation time stuck in a ditch or waiting for a tow truck. Because of this, we strongly recommend that you drive a vehicle equipped with 4-Wheel Drive or tire chains to access all properties from November to April. Make sure everyone in your group knows this and does not wait to prepare for potentially snowy conditions once they have arrived, as it can be difficult to drive without proper equipment when roads are snow-covered or icy.  We advise reducing tire pressure to 20-25 psi to increase traction on slippery roads.  If a BRMR employee can reach the house with a 4WD vehicle, then it is considered accessible. Keep in mind that parking on the roads to certain houses may be illegal and could result in accidents, fines, vehicle towing, and inability for locals and rescue vehicles to get to your house or others around you. Knowledge of and experience with driving in snow and ice is also important. We are not able to give any refunds, credits, or switching of properties if you come unprepared for wintery conditions and cannot get to your property.

How will my security deposit be refunded, and when may I expect it?

As long as there were no damages, the security deposit will be refunded to your credit card approximately two to three (2-3) weeks after you have checked out of your house. If you paid by check, your refund will be sent by check. By law, we have forty-five (45) days to return the deposit, but we do our best to return it to you within two to three (2-3) weeks, unless damages are found.

Must I arrive on a specific day of the week?

No, we do not place restrictions on what day of the week you must arrive.  We prefer renters with a week-long stay to check in on any day of the week except Saturdays, since that crosses over two weekends, but we will gladly book anything you need.

What pets do you allow?

Most pet-friendly properties allow dogs only, but there are several exceptions. Also, please note that some properties specify weight, age, or allergy restrictions. Refer to the property’s web listing for details.

Is there a fee for adding a pet?

Our pet-friendly properties require a nightly, non-refundable pet fee. At most homes, this is $25.00/nt or $125.00/wk for one dog, and $15.00/nt or $75.00/wk for each additional pet. Some homes may require a higher fee. Refer to the property’s web listing for details.

Lost & Found items.

We are not responsible for items which are left behind. However, if you contact us about a specific item, we will do our best to locate it and return it to you. We cannot guarantee that it will be found or shipped back within a set time frame.

What credit cards do you accept?

We take Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express.

Do you offer trip insurance?

Yes, we offer trip insurance through nationally recognized company, CSA Travel Protection. Your booking agent will provide you with any details you might need.

Do you offer damage insurance?

Yes, we offer damage insurance through nationally recognized company, CSA Travel Protection. Your booking agent will provide you with any details you might need.

Frequently Asked Questions about A SPECIFIC HOUSE

May I build a fire pit if one is not already provided?

If your cabin does not have a fire pit, please do not make your own. You will be charged for unauthorized outdoor burning and dismantling/extra cleaning labor.

May I roast marshmallows in the gas log fireplace?

Please refrain from roasting marshmallows in our gas log fireplaces. Doing so would make a mess for our housekeepers, which would incur extra cleaning charges to you, the renter.

May I burn real logs in the gas log fireplace?

Tenants may NOT, under any circumstances, burn real firewood in a gas log fireplace.

Does the house have WiFi? If so, do I need a password?

Most properties have WiFi, and if there is a password required, it will be listed in your welcome packet and/or posted in the house.

Is firewood provided at homes with a woodburning fireplace or a fire pit?

The supply of firewood at each house is up to the individual owners, therefore, some homes provide wood and some do not. Each property’s listing will state whether or not a limited supply of firewood is provided.

Will the hot tub be ready to use when I check-in?

Yes! Our hot tubs are serviced and sanitized after each guest’s departure by a state-certified spa technician, so relax and enjoy.

What’s in the kitchen?

Most kitchens are set up with basic cookware, serving bowls, dishes, and silverware, so if you’re planning a meal prepared with any unusual items (such as a crock pot or turkey roasting pan), you should bring them from home.

Where is the office located?

Our office is located at 7595 Valley Blvd, Blowing Rock, NC 28605, right behind Blowing Rock Antiques, near the Food Lion grocery store. Written directions to our office will be included with your rental agreement at the time of booking.

What if I arrive after you close?

We have an after-hours check-in box on our front porch. As long as your reservation is paid in full, your packet will be located in this box.  Information about this will be included with your rental agreement at the time of booking.

What are your office hours?

We are open 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Saturdays. We are closed on Sundays and major banking holidays.

Where is the nearest grocery store?

There are quite a few grocery stores in this area. Most homes are no more than 20 minutes from the nearest supermarket. There is a Super Walmart in Boone and in West Jefferson, as well as a number of chain grocery stores in Boone and Blowing Rock, including Food Lion, Lowes Foods, Ingles, Harris Teeter, and Publix.
